New to friendica

Hi lemurians,
I just joined friendica. I’m exploring what it’s like. What do you do on this server? What do you like about it?
Any recommendations for newbies?
Thanks!
Cheers,
Captain Donuts
in reply to Robert

Hi Robert, I'm the admin of this humble little place. I had some difficulties with federation with the fediverse, but now I'm gradually adding relays to improve the experience. This is a generic server, shaped by what people intend to shape it. Anyways, welcome!

Balancing federation on lemurs.space

Our global feed was late on the news since it saturated the memory limit as for the end of January. I had to clean the queue in the database to put lemurs.space back on its paws. That means that I had to scale down federation (AKA relays), which is very demanding on resources. I will gradually put them back up if everything turns out running smoothly. Cheers, Lemurs!
in reply to Essi Parent

I added a relay feeding from friendica.world. Let's see how it runs!

Golden Mandala

Another #mandala that I created, this one in #Krita.
Krita, if you are not familiar with it, is an open-source graphic program, that is geared more towards digital painting.

Mandala Created in GIMP 3.0

Hi everyone,
I created this #mandala in #GIMP. If you are not familiar with it, GIMP is an open-source raster graphic program, alternative to Adobe Photoshop. Its version 3.0 came out at the end of last year. And with a bit of practice, it allows to create stunning artwork, such as mandalas.

I saw on Reddit a post about the CDC in the US deleting the data about long covid. (I have long covid myself).
in reply to Kimberly99

In bioscience and medicine, there are very strict rules against local copies. Even having data in the RAM (like loading data locally to compute stats) is forbidden. Saving precious data is sometimes an act of civil disobedience - I luckily don't have these constrain. Although I'm based in Canada, I'm backing up everything in case this insanity is going to cross the border

Linux Setup

I set up Linux as an operating system on my computer yesterday, in an attempt to move away from American big tech corporations.

At first, setting it up feels a big technical, and might be a bit daunting for non-technical folks. but once installed, I found using it rather smooth and natural.

Not all programs are available for Linux OS, so it might not be a solution for everyone. Also, there is the possibility to install it as a dual OS, to have the choice between Linux and Windows at start up.

Below, Linux's logo. Not a lemur, but penguins are cute too.

in reply to Enea

in reply to Enea

in reply to Essi Parent

To nom d'utilisateur c'est Essi Parent, tu as des enfants ?
in reply to Enea

;) Oui je suis papa, mais Parent est mon nom de famille

Hello Golden one! The poodle joins me to welcome you to Friendica!

What's Saving My Life Today

1. Loop earplugs - it's so noisy at work!
2. #friday afternoons - just the thought of the cozy quiet house is inspiring!
3. The hashtag #poetry ... There are still beautiful thoughts out there.
4. Snow covered lilac tree views out my back deck doors.
5. #gratitude

I wasn't familiar with the use of hashtags in this site, thanks for the tip.

Hi,
My name is Enea, 35, from France.
I don't know much about lemurs, but I like the idea of the lost continent of Lemuria.

I just joined the lemur space today, and I am getting to know the Fediverse. I also joined a Peertube instance a few days ago. I am looking to move away from centralized social media.

Not the kind of bird I expected around the feeder, but welcome!

New!

Hi! I'm a new Friendica :) Very curious about this platform.

Lemurs.space has been down for three hours today. I don't know why it went offline... and why it went back online. Investigating the logs is in the todo list. Sorry about that, lemurs

Hello friends

Here I am, waiting for my cute little friend bubble to form again in peace.

Why does the global directory list less people than it did a few days ago? By a lot?
in reply to Kimberly99

I'm still learning how ActivityPub works. To avoid overloading the server, I limited the global community to the most used servers of the Fediverse, but I think it should also be populated with servers our users are connected to. I have figured out that the minimum server plan was not enough to run Friendica, so I upgraded the plan and hope that the global feed with run smoother...

Will This Be the Place?

Will this be that mystical place where we can authentically connect on mutual interests and respectfully engage in edifying conversation?
Oh man oh man I hope so!
Throw me your best thrifting find stories, the latest plant you grew, something that made you smile, a breakthrough you had or almost had, a place you struggle, a quote you love, a slice of beauty you noticed, an injustice you want to genuinely talk about, a memory of your Gran, a picture of the weather. Just whatever it is, be #thoughtful be #kind, be #authentic, and you're my people ❣️
Let's make this a GOOD - and INTERESTING! - place 😘
in reply to Kimberly99

Welcome to Friendica! I'm your admin here at Lemurs.Space, and I'm happy to have you aboard. As we're a new instance just getting started, we're actively building and improving. If you encounter any challenges while getting settled in, or have questions about features and settings, please don't hesitate to send me a private message - I'm here to help make every lemur's experience here smooth and enjoyable!
in reply to Kimberly99

We had a beautiful snowy day here in Sherbrooke (Québec) and it was quite relaxing to come back home after work (teaching maths) + gym. The picture taken by Vincent Vallières yesterday give a feel of what it looks like these days.
