I got this message in my inbox this morning:

I have been told that tomorrow evening during the President's State of the Union speech, there is an alternative for us to watch. If you were already wondering how you could handle watching the President boasting about what he has accomplished and will do yet, this may be good news. The broadcast is called " THE STATE OF OUR UNION" and it will begin at 6pm Central time & go to approximately midnight. To find this alternative to the President's speech, if all works as is hoped, we can log into Youtube.com/RolandSMartin, or view this on the Black Star Network (BSN) app.

The broadcast will be broken into 30-minute blocks with speakers that include Congressional Black Caucus members, civil rights activists, voting rights advocates, labor leaders, business leaders, grassroots activists and millennials. The organizers of the broadcast are planning to go live to New Haven, Connecticut, the moment President Trump walks to the mic, and they will begin with a speech from Rev. William J. Barber II. Periodically, besides the speakers already listed, the advocates will show clips of the President and discuss what is being said.

If you are interested in spreading the word about this alternative and also tuning in, the creators of the broadcast hope that Trump's ratings will be very LOW while each of us finds much needed inspiration. Their goal is to have 100,000 views and hopefully this can be accomplished.

I saw on Reddit a post about the CDC in the US deleting the data about long covid. (I have long covid myself).

In bioscience and medicine, there are very strict rules against local copies. Even having data in the RAM (like loading data locally to compute stats) is forbidden. Saving precious data is sometimes an act of civil disobedience - I luckily don't have these constrain. Although I'm based in Canada, I'm backing up everything in case this insanity is going to cross the border

What's Saving My Life Today

2. #friday afternoons - just the thought of the cozy quiet house is inspiring!
3. The hashtag #poetry ... There are still beautiful thoughts out there.
4. Snow covered lilac tree views out my back deck doors.

I wasn't familiar with the use of hashtags in this site, thanks for the tip.

Why does the global directory list less people than it did a few days ago? By a lot?

I'm still learning how ActivityPub works. To avoid overloading the server, I limited the global community to the most used servers of the Fediverse, but I think it should also be populated with servers our users are connected to. I have figured out that the minimum server plan was not enough to run Friendica, so I upgraded the plan and hope that the global feed with run smoother...

Will This Be the Place?

Will this be that mystical place where we can authentically connect on mutual interests and respectfully engage in edifying conversation?
Oh man oh man I hope so!
Throw me your best thrifting find stories, the latest plant you grew, something that made you smile, a breakthrough you had or almost had, a place you struggle, a quote you love, a slice of beauty you noticed, an injustice you want to genuinely talk about, a memory of your Gran, a picture of the weather. Just whatever it is, be #thoughtful be #kind, be #authentic, and you're my people ❣️
Let's make this a GOOD - and INTERESTING! - place 😘

We had a beautiful snowy day here in Sherbrooke (Québec) and it was quite relaxing to come back home after work (teaching maths) + gym. The picture taken by Vincent Vallières yesterday give a feel of what it looks like these days.
